The Deeper Life High School, Mowe campus, has launched a sports academy that will discover and train teenagers in different sporting activities with a two-year programme.
This was disclosed at the weekend by the school administrator, Emmanuel Eze, during their sixth biennial inter-house sports competition, which was held at the campus.
The event was chaired by Rear Admiral Sunday Atakpa and attracted other dignitaries as well as parents.
According to Eze, the academy, which took off recently, already has over 60 students.
“The goal is to provide young athletes with easier access to harness boundless opportunities in different frontiers, as well as acquire a rounded education that instills an understanding of the values of winning with the required discipline for them to manifest or exhibit their highest capabilities,” Eze said at the event.
“The programme will run for two years and after the completion of the training, the enrollees would be given a certificate that could be recognised anywhere in the world.”
He added that the academy won’t affect the students’ academic performance.
“However, it is noteworthy that the specialised sports academy does not in any way affect the school’s regular sporting activities because sport is an integral part of the co-curriculum activities in the school.”
Some of the events at the inter-house sports include tug of war, high jump, match past, relay race, 100m, 200m and 400m races.
Yellow House won the event with 16 gold, seven silver and five bronze medals, followed by Blue House in second with nine gold, 16 silver and nine bronze medals, while the third position went to the Green House with nine gold, seven silver and 12 bronze medals.
