The Little Sisters of the Poor Home for the Elderly and St. Joseph’s Home for the Elderly and Handicapped have won the 2022 TotalEnergies Charity Golf Tournament donation.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the two homes won the money after the tournament’s 26th edition held at the Lakowe Lakes Golf Resort in Ajah, Lagos.
The two homes, based in Nnewi in Anambra and Enugu, won N1m each, being the prize money of the annual golf tournament.
The Managing Director of TotalEnergies, Mike Sangerster, said the award was part of the company’s Corporate Social Responsibility.
“As a company, we are also involved in other golf sponsorships. However, the TotalEnergies Charity Golf Tournament continues to hold a special place in our events calendar.
“As a major player in the global energy industry, it is our ambition to provide the world with cleaner, cheaper, and more accessible energy
“At the centre of our ambition and strategy is social responsibility, improving the lives of the people and the country where we operate. Of course, this is with the help of society.
“This is what we are doing today with your help,” he said.
Sangerster stated also that the donation to the two homes would be added to the company’s budget.
“We will continue to show our support for sports and games because of their numerous health and social benefits.
“This include their ability to bring people together in a diverse environment, foster solidarity, networking, create leadership, and promote good health, particularly mental health,” Sangerster added.
Rev. Sister Eunice Emelife, who spoke on behalf of the two homes, commended TotalEnergies for the gusture.
“On behalf the two homes, I want to thank the management and staff of TotalEnergies for the donation.
“We appreciate the gesture extended to the two homes.
“I however want to call on the management of TotalEnergies to find time to visit the homes and see what we are doing.
”I’m sure the people in the homes will be happy to see them,” she said.
NAN reports that Cajetan Onu won the staff men’s category of the tournament, while Richard Michael came second and Akpos Adonke finished third.
In the ladies category, Jumai Abdullahi came first, while Akalamudo Ogemdi was second and Nkoli Muka came third.
Florence Ilaka won the staff ladies category trophy.
