Super Falcons coach, Randy Waldrum, says his squad is fully focused on their 2023 World Cup opener against Canada on Friday, PUNCH Sports Extra report.
The nine-time African champions will be aiming to earn their second win against at the World Cup against the Canadians and also keep their unbeaten record against the North Americans in the Mundial intact.
Both sides have met four times overall, with Canada winning two (in friendly games) while the Falcons churned a win and a draw against them at the World Cup.
Speaking ahead of Friday’s game in a chat with PUNCH Sports Extra, Waldrum said, “Yes it’s been a while, the team has been training well. All focus has been on Canada.
“I think the expectation is to get out of the group, that hasn’t changed. One thing I know is that the players have given us everything in the past days and we will continue to do that until Friday. We will be proud and make you all proud as well.”
The Canadians have managed only one win, one draw and three losses in their last five games as against the Falcons’ three wins and two defeats in their last five matches.
This year’s World Cup is Waldrum’s second major competition with the Falcons, after he led the team to fourth place at the Women’s African Cup of Nations last year.
The Falcons will also face Australia July 27, before their final group game against Republic of Ireland July 31.
