Super Eagles defender Semi Ajayi has revealed that he feels blessed to play for the Nigeria national football team, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.

A first-half penalty won by Bright Osayi-Samuel and scored by Moses Simon sealed a 1-0 away win for the Eagles over Guinea-Bissau on matchday four of the 2023 AFCON qualifiers on Monday.

The win saw Jose Peseiro’s side reclaim the top spot with nine points while Guinea occupy second position with seven points.

While speaking to NFF TV, Ajayi said that it was important for the boys to make amends for their shock defeat to the Wild Dogs in the first match of the tie in Abuja last Friday.

“It was a very important result in terms of our qualification for the AFCON tournament. It put us back on top of the group and in pole position,” Ajayi said.

“We know we let ourselves down on Friday and it is good to be able to put that result right and come home with the win.”

Ajayi also expressed his joy at donning the green and white of the Eagles whenever he is called up to represent Nigeria.

“It is a blessing, honestly, anytime I am called to play for my country, whether it is one minute or it is 90 minutes, it is something I don’t take lightly, to be given the opportunity to represent my country.

“In fact, I was able to start today and help the team pick up a very valuable win. That is all that matters to me,” Ajayi said.
