Nigeria’s U-20 female team, the Falconets, will face another test against Benin in the semi-final of the 2023 WAFU B U-20 tournament, after finishing the group stage in style with a 3-0 win over Burkina Faso on Sunday.
Opeyemi Ajakaye scored twice and Sebastine Flourish added the last goal as Christopher Danjuma’s girls maintained their perfect winning run at the Baba Yara Stadium, Kumasi on Sunday.
Despite sealing progress with the final game to spare, coach Christopher Danjuma named a strong side against their opponents.
Burkina Faso made an excellent start to the tournament, beating Togo and Niger to qualify for the semifinals with a game to spare. But they were always going to find the going difficult against a Nigerian side that had scored goals for fun in Ghana.
The victory rounds up Nigeria’s scoring spree in the group stages having beaten Togo 7-0 and Niger 6-0.
Opeyemi Ajakaye leads the scorers’ chart of the tournament with six goals so far while Sebastine Flourish has three.
The Falconets will play Benin on Wednesday while Burkina Faso also advanced despite the defeat and will next face hosts Ghana for a place in the final.
