Napoli boss Luciano Spaletti has confirmed that while Victor Osimhen is a doubt for today’s game against Liverpool, he is available for selection and a decision will be made before kick-off, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.
The Nigeria international trained separately from the rest of the team on Monday morning due to a muscle issue and after a test on Tuesday, reports in Italy reveal there is a 50-50 chance the striker will take to the pitch tonight.
Osimhen has partially trained with the rest of the team over the last couple of days and remains in doubt for the game due to a muscle issue, while Hirving Lozano is ready to play.
“Lozano is available for selection, he carried out the full session today with regards to Osimhen yesterday he experienced some pain, so he didn’t train yesterday and trained separately today,” Spalletti said at a press conference on Tuesday.
“Tomorrow (today) he will train with the group provided he feels better than today (Tuesday). Tomorrow (today), if he feels up for it, he will try and shoot, try to do a bit more with the ball and if he has a positive feeling about that, like this morning, he will be available for selection.”
According to Gazzetta dello Sport, Osimhen wants to play, but Napoli’s medical staff doesn’t want to risk a more severe injury.
“He has a little issue with his abductor, but no tear,” said Napoli director Cristiano Giuntoli.
“He and medical staff must decide what to do against Liverpool.”
The 23-year-old has so far scored two goals and provided one assist for Napoli this season.
