Nigeria international, Bright Osayi-Samuel, won’t be sanctioned by the Turkish Football Federation’s disciplinary council following a melee that had the defender engage a pitch invader in a boxing contest, during an explosive league game between Trabzonspor and Fenerbahce March 17, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.
Tension started flaring in the 87th minute when objects were thrown onto the field after Michy Batshuayi scored what proved to be the winner for the visitors.
Fenerbahce defender Osayi-Samuel was cleared of any offence on Wednesday alongside Batshuayi while Trabzonspor’s coach Egemen Korkmaz was banned from the dressing room and bench for one match for fighting with a rival player.
Osayi-Samuel’s teammates Jayden Oosterwolde and Irfan Egribayat were also handed one-match ban at the disciplinary hearing of the TFF for fighting with rival fans.
“Although a referral was made to our board due to the act of Osayi-Samuel fighting with fans of the opposing team in the Turkish Super League game. The elements of the alleged disciplinary violation have not occurred hence there is no role for punishment for Osayi-Samuel,” the statement read in parts.
Osayi-Samuel has made 30 appearances across all competition for Fenerbahce this season and has scored three goals plus four assists.
Meanwhile, the TFF disciplinary council has ordered Trabzonspor to play six games behind closed doors after the violence.
The club was also fined £75,000.
Fenerbahce are second in Super Lig after 30 games — two points behind leaders Galatasaray — are scheduled to face Galatasaray on Sunday in the Turkish Super Cup final.
