Rennes striker Martin Terrier was stretchered off in the 2-1 win over Nice on Monday after suffering a ruptured cruciate ligament in his right knee – an injury that put an end to the sensational striker’s promising season.
Rennes’ star striker Martin Terrier was stretchered off after suffering intense pain in his right knee during Monday’s 2-1 R17 win over Nice.
Terrier went down screaming and holding his right knee after a collision with Nice full-back Jordan Lotomba on the half-hour mark.
Now the verdict is in: he has ruptured his cruciate ligament. Rennes announced that an operation could be considered soon.
In the wake of a stunning 2021-22 campaign that saw him rack up 21 Ligue 1 Uber Eats goals, Martin Terrier had racked up 12 so far in the current season, all competitions combined, including the opening goal in the fifth minute against Nice on Monday night.
The 25-year-old striker’s absence through to the end of the season is a real blow for Rennes, who are fighting for a European finish.
“Martin is a very important player. He is a leader of the attack, capable of scoring and getting goals,” said Rennes boss Bruno Genesio.
“He is also very important in the construction of our play. His will be a very difficult absence to fill, but there are players who are there and who haven’t had all that many opportunities to show themselves.”
Genesio added that Rennes are discussing the option of looking for an attacking reinforcement in the winter transfer window.
