The Minister of Sports Development, John Enoh, has confirmed the readiness of the ministry to seal its partnership with Yucateco Boxing Promotions on talent discovery.
Senator Enoh revealed this at the recently held Yucateco Boxing Lifetime Achievements Merit Award in Lagos. In his address at the event, he said that the process of cementing a groundbreaking partnership between both parties is in its final stages.
“I am pleased to announce that the Ministry of Sports will be signing a groundbreaking partnership with Yucateco Boxing Promotions in the coming days, this partnership is in line with my agenda on talent discovery and exposure.” he said.
“Yucateco Promotions has a functional model based on all they have done thus far, and we hope to key into the existing structure by leveraging on their financial might and other technicalities, this we hope to perfect before the commencement of season two; of the boxing league.”
Chairman CEO Yucateco Boxing Promotions, Omonlei Imadu, said his outfit is open to working with the Ministry of Sports to change the phase and narratives of boxing in Nigeria.
“I have been receiving calls from boxing stakeholders both home and abroad on when this partnership will be formalized. On our part, we are ready and just waiting for the sports ministry to come through on their end. It will be a groundbreaking partnership that will completely change the phase of boxing in Nigeria.
“Our very reputable sports minister, Senator John Enoh has confirmed the Ministry’s readiness to see this through in the coming days, so let’s remain hopeful as we prepare for other events lined up in our boxing calendar.”
According to Imadu, the National open trial for season two of the YBL will hold from May 24 to 26 at the Brai Ayonote Boxing Gymnasium, National Stadium in Surulere, Lagos State.
