Super Eagles duo Victor Osimhen and Ademola Lookman have been nominated for the EA SPORTS FIFA Team of the Season as Lega Serie A unveiled the highly anticipated list on Tuesday, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.
Both players have been outstanding for their respective clubs as the 2022/23 season draws to a close.
Osimhen played a key role as Napoli ended their 33-year wait to win the Serie A title, with the Nigerian scoring an impressive 23 goals from 29 matches.
The 24-year-old currently leads the race for the top scorer award in Italy’s topflight, three goals more than Inter Milan’s Latauro Martinez.
The former Lille man’s fantastic season also saw him break George Weah’s record of the African player with the most goals scored in the Italian topflight.
His outstanding performances make him one of the most sought-after strikers in Europe, with Manchester United, Chelsea, PSG and Newcastle among some of the clubs reportedly interested in him.
Meanwhile, Lookman also put up some impressive numbers for the club in his debut season.
The winger is the club’s top scorer with 13 goals plus four assists from 28 league appearances.
The Nigerian’s season was blighted by injuries, but his outstanding performances in the first half of the campaign was enough to earn him a well-deserved nomination.
Remarkably, only three players in Serie A, including compatriot Osimhen, have scored more goals than the former Leicester City loanee.
Little wonder the club’s dip in form happened as at the time the player was injured and having difficulty scoring.
Also, Destiny Udogie, who is of Nigerian descent, made the list and his good display already earn him a move to English Premier League club, Tottenham Hotspur, at the end of the season.
The 20-year-old defender has been consistent for Udinese and has made 31 appearances in Serie A, contributing three goals and four assists.
