Following his outstanding season in the English Championship, Premier League side Crystal Palace are reportedly ready to launch a summer move for Middlesbrough striker Chuba Akpom, according to a report on TEAMtalk.
The former Arsenal forward has been impressive for Michael Carrick’s side and has scored 28 goals in 37 Championship games so far this season, and is been targeted by Premier League clubs
Boro are fourth on the English Championship table with 74 points and have already booked their spot in the play-offs as they look to return to the Premier League for the first time since 2016/17.
But if they miss out on promotion, the Eagles could take advantage and sign Akpom for next summer.
The 27-year-old Super Eagles hopeful returned to Boro last summer following a season on loan at Greek club PAOK and has enjoyed the campaign, emerging the division’s top scorer.
“It remains to be seen if Akpom will still be playing at the Riverside Stadium next season. Palace are drawing up plans to bid for the former England U-21 international in the summer.
“Akpom would relish the chance to move back to London. He was born in the capital and came through Arsenal’s academy before leaving in August 2018,” TEAMtalk report stated.
“Even if Boro gain promotion via the play-offs, Akpom would still be keen on a return to London. Palace will bid for him regardless of how Boro’s season ends, although they will have to put more money on the table if Akpom fires Carrick’s team back into the topflight.”
Akpom’s contract expires in June 2024, with an extension yet to be discussed.
The prolific striker has scored 29 goals across all competitions this season.
