Former Napoli striker Edinson Cavani has revealed his children look up to Victor Osimhen, largely due to his hunger and attitude on the pitch for the Partenopei this season.

The Uruguayan heaped praises on Osimhen, describing the Nigeria international as a competitive player who can make the difference.

Osimhen was one of the architects of Napoli winning the Serie A for the first time in 33 years, netting the title-winning goal as they earned a 1-1 draw against Udinese May 4.

He has scored 23 goals in 30 appearances in the Serie A to top the scorers charts this season and he is on course to becoming the league top scorer with two games to go. Inter Milan’s Lautaro Martinez is behind him with 20 goals.

Cavani reckons that Osimhen can become a better striker in the future given his age, and admitted that his children idolise the Napoli No.9.

“Idol of my children? They talked a lot about Kvaratskhelia and Osimhen. Even 20 days ago when they came to see me they spoke to me about it. It’s nice to know they have these idols,” Cavani told DAZN via Radio Kiss Kiss.

He added, “Osimhen? I really like his hunger, he’s incredible, he never gives up, and so in the end that’s what makes you different and makes you a competitive player.

“He has everything to continue growing and become one of the best strikers in the world. The Scudetto was also won thanks to his hunger.”

Osimhen joined Napoli from Lille in 2020 for a fee in the region of €70m.

His form has led to several top European clubs scrambling for his signature with Manchester United, Chelsea, Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain among his suitors.
