Osimhen won’t change Chelsea, warns Gallas

William Gallas has told Chelsea that signing Victor Osimhen alone won’t make much of a difference to their chances of success next season.

The Blues have splashed out over €1bn in the last 18 months since Todd Boehly bought the club.

Despite that outlay, they have performed shockingly badly on the pitch, winning no trophies, finishing 12th last season and positioned in eleventh this term.

One of Chelsea’s biggest problems has been their lack of firepower.

As such, the Blues have made the signing of a top striker a priority in the summer.

Napoli star Victor Osimhen has been reported to be their primary target but former Chelsea defender Gallas says he won’t be enough on his own.

“Victor Osimhen to Chelsea? One player won’t make the difference and change things around for Chelsea,” Gallas told Lord Ping.

“Even if they buy one striker, you have to be sure the players around him have the quality to supply that striker.
“The squad is very young, so next year we may see an improvement in the team and they might compete for the Premier League.

“We have to see how many goals Nicolas Jackson will score, he has eight at the moment. If Jackson cannot reach 15 Premier League goals or more, then Chelsea need a top striker, because at the moment they don’t have it.”

FootballTransfers understands that Osimhen has decided to leave Napoli at the end of the campaign.

The 25-year-old has seen his relationship with Napoli sour this season, following the TikTok scandal in which the club’s own social media team mocked his penalty miss with Bologna.

Osimhen has had a stop-start season on the pitch, while Napoli have endured a disastrous defence of the Scudetto they won last season and are currently ninth in Serie A.

He also has interest from some other Premier League and European clubs, including Arsenal.
