Osimhen signs new Napoli contract

Nigerian forward, Victor Osimhen, has signed a new deal with Napoli that will see him remain with the Serie A champions until 2026, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.
The 24-year-old scored 26 Serie A goals in 32 appearances in the 2022/23 season as he helped Napoli win their first league title in 33 years.
Osimhen, who managed 31 goals in all competitions last season, was crowned the Italian footballers’ association player of the year earlier this month.
He then also won the African Footballer of the Year award for 2023 breaking a 24-year jinx as no Nigerian had claimed the title since Nwankwo Kanu in 1999.
Osimhen said in November that he made a decision that was “good for his career” after being linked with a move to Saudi Arabia in the summer.
His previous contract was scheduled to expire in 2025.
Napoli confirmed the extension to the forward’s contract on social media with a post that read “together until 2026” and a picture of Osimhen and club president Aurelio De Laurentiis.
Italian transfer expert, Fabrizio Romano, also confirmed this development via his X account on Saturday. He wrote, “Victor Osimhen signs new deal at Napoli — confirmed. Documents also in place.”
Earlier on Friday, Romano noted that “the agreement between Napoli and Victor Osimhen on new deal is 100% done and confirmed. “It will be sealed before Christmas, it’s imminent.”
Osimhen will make a return to the Eagles for the Africa Cup of Nations after missing the team’s World Cup qualifiers against Lesotho and Zimbabwe in November due to a hamstring injury.
The Eagles on their part head into the AFCON tournament in a rather confident mood with a seven-game unbeaten record (four wins and three draws) and are up against host Equatorial Guinea Ivory Coast and Guinea-Bissau in Group A.
