Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen has resumed training with teammates following his rehabilitation from an ankle sprain earlier this week, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.
The reigning Serie A champions trained at the Teofilo Patini Stadium in Castel di Sangro, Italy, where Osimhen made a return to the group on Thursday.
The 24-year-old joined the afternoon session under new manager Rudi Garcia and he might be available for their final pre-season game against Greek club Apollon Limassol on Friday (today).
According to AreaNapoli, Garcia will consider giving the Nigeria international as they prepare for the start of their Serie A title defence on August 19 with their clash against Frosinone.
The former Lille player, who played in the training match with his teammates, was applauded by Naples fans who came to watch the session.
Meanwhile, Osimhen’s agent, Roberto Calenda, and Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis are still engaged in contract negotiations to decide the future of the Super Eagles striker.
On Wednesday, De Laurentiis revealed that Osimhen would not be sold this summer even if their valuation of €200m was met.
As reported by PUNCH Sports Extra on July 31, the Partenopei president, who turned down a lucrative €130m bid from Saudi Arabian side Al-Hilal for the Nigerian striker, is focusing on securing Osimhen’s future at the club by negotiating a new contract extension.
Osimhen capped an outsanding season in Italy last season finishing as the league’s top scorer with an impressive 26 goals in just 32 appearances. His remarkable feat also earned him the prestigious Golden Boot award, making him the first African to achieve the feat in the league’s history.
