Ahead of Asisat Oshola’s home debut for her new club Bay FC, in the National Women Soccer League on Sunday, the club’s supporters have fully booked the 18,000-capacity PayPal Park in San Jose, for what will be a historic game against Houston Dash, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.
The six-time CAF Women’s Player of The Year, Oshoala was made the poster girl of the pre-match flyer as the new NWSL side announced the selling out and also issued driving and parking advisories to their fans.
“Bay FC, the new women’s professional soccer franchise representing the Bay Area in the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL), will host the club’s first home match Saturday, March 30, (3am on Sunday in Nigeria) at PayPal Park in San Jose. Bay FC’s inaugural game is sold out,” the club announced on their website.
“Fans are encouraged to give themselves an extra 30 to 45 minutes to arrive at PayPal Park. Stadium gates will open at 5 p.m. allowing access to the inaugural FanFest Area. Additionally, the first 5,000 fans through the gates will receive an inaugural pin.”
Bay FC have played two games so far in the league, winning one, losing one and scoring two goals in the process.
Oshoala has been involved in both goals, scoring their first ever NWSL goal in the 1-0 win over Angel City on Monday March 18 before providing the assist for Dorian Bailey in their 2-1 loss against Washington Spirit last Sunday.
She is already in the history books of the club as their first ever goal scorer in the league and will be looking to create more history when they play their first home game on Sunday.
The 29-year-old joined the American club on a two-year-deal from FC Barcelona Feminine, where she had a successful stint and scored 117 goals in 162 appearances over five years.
In Spain, she won two UEFA Women’s Champions League titles, four league titles, three Spanish Super Cups and the Copa de la Reina three times.
Established in April 2023, Bay FC are the 14th team to join the NWSL as an expansion team for the 2024 season.
