The International Federation of Football History and Statistics has rated Super Falcons star Asisat Oshoala world leading female scorer in 2023 ahead of Benfica’s Jessica Silva, PUNCH Sports Extra` reports.
According to IFFHS, all goals scored in top national divisions worldwide (35 best leagues) were taken into account.
After initially struggling at the start of the season, Oshoala has been on fire for Barcelona since the turn of the year and has scored already 16 goals in the Liga, leading the World Ranking with in-form Portuguese striker Silva, who sits second with 14 goals.
Last year’s winner Fenna Kalma is sixth with 11 goals, while Mexican Veronica Corral has scored 10 goals.
Oshoala retained the number one spot she claimed in January after scoring 10 goals following a treble of hat-tricks scored in the month.
After a difficult year due to injury, Jennifer Hermoso, the first IFFHS top goals scorer award winner in 2021, came back in Mexico with Pachuca.
Oshoala is on track to retain the Women’s Spanish Primera Division Pichichi award for the league’s top scorer, which she won in the 2021/22 season.
Last season, the five-time Africa Women’s Player of The Year scored 20 goals to finish as the league’s leading scorer ahead of Geyse (19) and teammates Lieke Martens and Alexia Putellas, who both finished the season with 17 goals apiece.
The Super Falcons star became the second non-Spanish player to win the Golden Boot award after Mexican Charlyn Corral, who claimed it in the 2017/18 season.
So far this season, she already bagged 19 goals in 19 games, a goal more than Levante’s Redondo Ferrer.
