Gift Orban has no immediate plans to leave Gent this summer despite rumors linking him with Barcelona, Porto and Benfica in recent days.
Orban joined Gent in the January transfer window and has been exceptional since making his debut for the Buffalos with Premier League clubs Leicester City and Leeds United also credited with an interest.
Speaking with Belgian daily, De Morgen, Gent Technical Director, Michel Louwagie said, “Gift is a luxury problem. He still has a contract until 2027, and we didn’t get him at the end of January to sell again in July. We’ve never done that before.”
Louwagie also refused to comment on the €20m valuation of the Nigerian striker following his bright start in the Jupiler league.
“I am not going to comment on those €20m report,” Louwagie continued.
“We’ll see what the price will be.
“I once put €20m on Moses Simon’s head.”
Orban has notched 14 goals with two assists in 16 games across all competitions.
Last Sunday, the Nigerian failed to help Genk on the final day of the regular season to reach the Belgian Championship playoffs.
Gent surprisingly lost 2-1 at home to relegated KV Oostende, while defending champions Club Brugge walloped KAS Eupen 7-0.
Gent thus finished fifth in the standings with 56 points, while Club Brugge recorded 59 points.
He featured for 76 minutes before he was replaced.
Gent will now play in the second playoffs that will produce a team to play in next season’s UEFA Europa Conference League.
