Nigerian forward, Paul Onuachu has penned a three-and-a-half-year deal with struggling English Premier League side, Southampton, from Genk.
Southampton and Genk agreed on a £15.8m deal plus add-ons for the lanky striker, who was also linked with another Premier League club, Everton.
Everton were offered the chance to sign the striker after Saints’ initial offer was declined by Genk ahead of deadline day.
The striker will later travel to England to resume at St. Mary’s after completing his medicals in France.
The news will come as a big blow to the Toffees, who had entered into negotiations with the player’s representatives and hope to have the striker to help resolve their goal-scoring crisis, having found the back of the net just 15 times this season.
The Blues are yet to make a signing in the transfer window and the Nigerian could have been their first buy on deadline day.
Onuachu has been in top form for Genk since joining them from FC Midtjylland in 2019.
The 28-year-old has scored 16 goals in 19 appearances in the Belgium Jupiler league this season to stand as the leading scorer.
The Saints will be hopeful he will continue his scoring form to lift them out of relegation as they are bottom of the Premier League table with 15 points from 20 matches.
Onuachu will link up with compatriot Joe Aribo, who also joined the club last summer from Glasgow Rangers.
