Olympian Falilat Ogunkoya has harped on consistency for student-athletes who desire to pursue a career in track and field, The PUNCH reports.

Ogunkoya made this call at the two-day Nigeria School Sports Federation’s World School Athletics Trials at the MKO Abiola Stadium, Abeokuta, on Wednesday.

The double Olympic medallist and former world junior champion, who recalled her breakthrough in athletics, said, “This is how I started and it is good, they have to continue doing it. It doesn’t end here because only a few of them will be selected. So, we have to keep encouraging them to keep training and they will see the result.”

President, Nigeria School Sports Federation, Olabisi Joseph, said, “For us at NSSF, unearthing the talents early is one of our priorities and this tournament will provide us the opportunity to achieve this and we will also select the best that will represent the country at the 2023 World School Athletics Championship in Turkey.”

Over 1,248 students from 24 states are competing in the U-12, U-15, and U-18 categories of various track and field events, which ends on Thursday (today).
