Shooting Stars coach, Gbenga Ogunbote, is relieved to have ended Remo Stars’ seven-year unbeaten run in the Nigeria Premier Football League against his team last Sunday, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.

Ogunbote led the Oluyole Warriors to their first-ever win over Remo Stars in the NPFL, with Christian Pyagabara scoring a brace in the southwest derby at the Adamasingba Stadium, Ibadan.

“It was a tension-soaked game and I’m happy that the boys were able to hold their nerves to win,” Ogunbote said.

“The win is for the club’s fans who have stayed true to the team and believe we can turn things around when we started slowly.”

The win extended 3SC’s unbeaten streak in the NPFL to six games  — four wins plus two draws — a form that has seen Ogunbote’s side move up to sixth in the NPFL standings with 40 points from 26 games.

He believes 3SC’s current form can usher fresh hope in their quest to nick a spot in next season’s CAF club competitions.

“When we were 13th in the NPFL table, I said we were still on course to nick a CAF spot. Then we had 19 games but now we have 12 games and we are confident of achieving it by the end of the season.

“Anything can happen, we all know this and it’s achievable to get the continental ticket with 12 games left,” he said.

Shooting Stars will face Niger Tornadoes away in their next game on Sunday.
