Organisers of the Nigeria Professional Football League, the Interim Management Committee, in conjunction with GTI and Propel Sports Africa have secured a $5m deal to stream the league matches on digital platforms from the 2023/24 season.

The NPFL on Tuesday announced that the innovation had been enabled by world’s most advanced Artificial Intelligence, making the league the first in Africa to deploy the technology.

The point of the innovation is NPFL Live, a dedicated streaming app that will allow fans to enjoy live matches and exclusive content with seamless user experience for football enthusiasts in Nigeria and throughout the world.

Ed Simons, Director, Propel Sports Africa said, “NPFL will become the first topflight to use AI with livestream. For Propel Sport this is a five-year dream.”

Basil Kabbani, Chairman, Propel Sports Africa also said, “The plan is to livestream on smart (mobile) phones via OTT platform. The goal is NPFLLive powered by GTI and Propel. This will be a watershed moment for Nigeria as we are only here to help.

“The goal is to put Nigeria back in number one spot in Africa. By August you’ll be able to live stream the league games in the country and other places in the world. We’re in touch with international sponsors that will help monetise the platform.”
