NPFL Legend: Theophilus Afelokhai

With Rivers United winning the 2021/22 Nigeria Professional Football League title, veteran goalkeeper Theophilus Afelokhai claimed his seventh Nigerian League crown.

The 34-year-old won four NPFL titles with Kano Pillars, two with Enyimba and the one with Rivers United.

The goalkeeper joined Kano Pillars in 2004 from NNL side Buffalo Football Club of Kano, before switching to Enyimba after winning multiple titles with the Sai Masu Gida.

And in 2020, he moved to Rivers United from Enyimba after winning two NPFL titles with the Peoples’ Elephant.

When Afekokhai joined Rivers United from Enyimba in 2020 he was the most highly paid footballer in the Nigeria Professional Football League.

Afelokhai has also represented his clubs in African continental competitions including both the CAF Champions League, and the CAF Confederation Cup.

On the International scene, Afelokhai was part of the home-based Super Eagles team that won a silver medal at the 2018 Africa Nations Championship (CHAN) in Morocco.
