President Federation Cup champions, El-Kanemi Warriors, are set for what will be their second game of the 2024/25 Nigeria Premier Football League season against Nasarawa United on match-day 3 at the Lafia Township Stadium on Saturday (today), PUNCH Sports Extra reports.
The game holds one week after the Solid Miners had their first home game of the season postponed indefinitely after Maiduguri, the Borno State capital, was ravaged by flooding.
Goalkeeper George Abine said the team has managed to shake up the setback that prevented them from holding regular first-team training at the Maiduguri Stadium.
“We arrived in Lafia on Thursday, and we are ready to take the league head-on,” Abine told PUNCH Sports Extra.
“The last 10 days have been tough for the players and officials, especially those who were affected by the flood.
“As we play, our hearts are still with the people of Borno over this incident, and we hope to make them happy with the result.”
Our correspondent also learnt that only one of the affected players could make the trip to Lafia, as other officials affected by the flood also missed out on the trip.
El-Kanemi Warriors, who got a point in their season opening clash with champions Enugu Rangers, will hope to repeat their heroics at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium in Enugu by securing at least a draw against the Flying Antelopes, who were held to a 1-1 draw at home by 3SC on match-day one.
