Nigeria senior women’s cricket team, the Female Yellow Greens, are hoping to reignite their campaign at the ongoing Nigeria Cricket Federation Women’s T20i invitational tournament when they face arch rivals Rwanda in their third game on Wednesday (today) at the Tafawa Balewa Square Oval in Lagos, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.

The familiar foes have won two each of the last four editions of the tournament, with Rwanda already in an early lead for this year’s title after winning their first two games. They beat the best-ranked team at the tournament, Tanzania by 33 runs on Sunday before showing superiority against Sierra Leone with a 10-wicket win on Tuesday.

Leonard Nhamburo’s ladies, however, face a tough test in extending their lead as they come up against Nigeria, who beat them by nine runs in last year’s final.

Nigeria need a win against the Rwandans to level up in terms of the number of wins heading into the last round of the fixtures.

The Female Yellow Greens won their first game convincingly against Sierra Leone by 54 runs but lost their second game of the tournament to Tanzania by 49 runs.

Head coach of the team, Leke Oyede, says the defeat against Tanzania was only a blip.

“In terms of where we need to be, the girls are putting in their efforts and it’s just a matter of sticking to the basics. We have the capacity to get the result we desire. We will give everything in the third game and we know that will go a long way towards how we fare at the end of the competition,” Oyede said.

After defeating Tanzania on Sunday, Rwanda coach Nhamburo also said the win has given them much confidence.

After Nigeria’s clash against Rwanda, debutants Tanzania will also take on Sierra Leone.

The four-nation tournament will be played till March 4 on a round-robin format, with the team with the highest points going home with the title.
