Remo Stars captain Junior Nduka is confident of getting his team’s run in the 2022/23 Nigeria Professional Football League Super 6 playoffs on track again as they go toe-to-toe against champions Rivers United in their second game on Monday (today), PUNCH Sports Extra reports.
After being involved in the penalty against them during their first game against Enyimba on Saturday, the captain atoned for his act by scoring the crucial equaliser from a perfectly executed free-kick to end the game 2-2.
“The opening and closing stages of games are very important and that is why we came out with so much urgency to get ourselves back in the game. We did come with a plan to win all matches, but we have taken the positives from this one. I am happy we came back, it wasn’t a bad result for us and we have four matches to go,” Nduka told PUNCH Sports Extra after the opening game.
Remo and Rivers will clash for the first time this season, having both played the abridged regular season in different groups.
Rivers are currently top of the Super 6 table with three points, the only team that have won a game so far.
Head coach Stanley Eguma is looking forward to strengthening their title defence.
“Every team is strong, it’s not yet time to celebrate and we will take the matches one after the other. We will restrategise for our next opponents and our target is to get the three points,” Eguma said.
