Striker Ndifreke Effiong has joined Iraqi league side, Al-Quwa Al-Jawiya, few days after scoring a brace for Akwa United in the 2022/23 Nigeria Professional Football League season, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.
Ndifreke was left out of Akwa United’s NPFL match-day five squad against Kwara United on Wednesday, while news broke later in the day that he had moved to Iraq.
It’s the second time in barely two years in which the player has left the NPFL club to join another club outside the country.
In May 2021, the player joined Al Ahly Benghazi of Libya on a three-and-half-year deal, which he was later reported to have terminated and returned to Akwa United in October 2022.
He scored eight goals in the first stanza of the league before departing for Libya, while Akwa United also won the NPFL that season.
On his return to NPFL action Ndifreke scored a brace in Akwa United’s 3-0 win over Nasarawa United in Jos.
His new club, Al-Quwa Al-Jawiya are top of the Iraqi league table with 29 points from 14 matches.
