Coach Bala Nkiyu and his technical crew will heave a sigh of relief as they finally recorded their first win of the season – a 2-0 win over fellow strugglers Kwara United in Jos on Saturday.
Goals from King Osanga and Chinedu Ohanachom handed the Solid Miners the much-needed win on their return to the new Jos stadium, compounding the woes of their opponent (Kwara) who have only recorded one victory this term.
Osanga handed the hosts the lead in the 10th minute of the game, pouncing on a layoff off a freekick by Joshua John.
Ohanachom doubled Nasarawa United’s lead few minutes into the second half after stabbing home from a Chidera Nduka’s pass.
Despite the victory, Nasarawa United are still bottom of Group A with five points from seven matches.
Elsewhere in Gombe, Emeka Obioma scored his fifth goal of the season as eight times champion Enyimba fought back from a goal down to beat Gombe United at the Pantami Stadium.
Gombe United took the lead after 11 minutes through Taiye Yusuf while Elijah Akanni levelled matters for the Elephants in the 35th minute.
After the hosts had missed a penalty to regain their lead before the end of the first half, Obioma fired Enyimba into the lead with his fifth goal of the season in the second half and the Aba giants stayed firm to protect the lead which secured their second win on the road and takes them up to 13 points and three points shy off the top spot.
