A resurgent Akwa United were on rampage in search of their first win of the season in the Nigeria Professional Football League and did it emphatically away from home on match-day three with a 3-0 thrashing of Nasarawa United at the New Jos Stadium on Sunday, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.

Both clubs have failed to win their last two games and the result swinging either ways was sure to mount pressure on Abubakar Arikya and Deji Ayeni in the dug out of both clubs.

Following a cagey start, Ajako broke the deadlock with a super strike for Akwa United just before halftime to put the visitors ahead into the break.

Two minutes after the restart, Ndifreke Effiong doubled Akwa United’s advantage with a header off a inch perfect cross from Cyril Olisema.

Effiong rounded up scoring for the Promise Keepers in the 74th minute with his second of the game which came from a brilliant solo effort to take the game beyond the hosts.

The result eases off the pressure on Akwa United coach, Deji Ayeni, who said his team has been a work in progress since loosing their opening game at home against Bendel Insurance.

“Bendel Insurance cane to our backyard and shocked us 2-0. Since then we have bee putting our house together. We started with Enyimba and we have bee determined not to drop any points again.

“Honestly, I’ve got a lot of positives from the tactical aspect of the game. We started,” Ayeni said during the post match interview.

On the other hand, the result further compounds the woes of Nasarawa United, who have now lost two games on their adopted home ground.

“I believe it’s not our making, it’s football. Football comes like that, the boys did their best,” Nasarawa United coach, Abubakar Arikya said after the game.
