Napoli coach, Rudi Garcia, has heaped plaudits on Victor Osimhen following his impressive performance in Wednesday’s UEFA Champions League clash against SC Braga and is hopeful the Nigerian striker will return to scoring ways soon, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.
The 24-year-old had an assist for Napoli’s opening goal in first-half stoppage time as the Italian champions recorded a 2-1 away win at the Braga Municipal Stadium.
Despite not getting on the scoresheet, the Nigerian was voted Man-of-The-Match by UEFA for being a thorn in the flesh of Braga’s defence.
Speaking after his side’s win, Garcia backed the striker to return to scoring form having failed to score in his last three games across all competitions for the Partenopei.
“Osimhen fought hard and ran, it’s what I expect from all my players, that when it comes time to defend, they all help out,” Garcia said.
“The mentality and spirit of the team was good, but unfortunately we were not able to kill the game off when we had many chances to score that second goal.
“It would’ve taken the pressure and tension off. We are happy with the result, though. He (Osimhen) started well with two goals in three games and we hope he can get back on target.”
What may come as a concern for Napoli in Europe, however, is the risk of suspension to key players, as six players were cautioned on Wednesday.
Those who now run the risk of suspension include Osimhen, Matteo Politano, Giacomo Raspadori, Frank Anguissa, Mathia Olivera, and Juan Jesus.
