As part of the FIFA Technical Experts for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, former Super Eagles coach, Sunday Oliseh, is thrilled to have begun work, especially his partnership with American actor Morgan Freeman, on the opening day.

The former Eagles midfielder will be one of Nigeria’s representatives at the World Cup.

“After the beautiful opening ceremony with one of my favourite actors, Morgan Freeman, work and fun finally starts,” Oliseh said on his official Twitter handle.

“Feeling extremely honoured to have been bestowed the privilege in the company of legendary Italian maestro, Alberto Zaccheroni as FIFA Experts for today’s opening FIFA World Cup match; Qatar vs Ecuador.

Oliseh’s task will include analysing matches, pinpointing technical excellence and recording the latest advances and developments in the games.

The 2022 World Cup kicked off on Sunday as hosts Qatar opened their 2022 World Cup campaign on a losing note, beaten by Ecuador in a humbling 2-0 defeat at Al Bayt stadium.

Ecuador’s veteran striker Enner Valencia scored an early penalty and added a 31st-minute header to give the South Americans a commanding 2-0 win against the host nation

Oliseh played 63 international matches and scored three goals for Nigeria, and played at the World Cups of 1994 and 1998.

The 48-year-old was part of the Nigerian U-23 team that won a gold medal in the football event at the Atlanta ’96 Olympics.

The ex-midfielder was also a member of the Eagles side that won the 1994 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Tunisia.

Between 2015 and 2016, he was appointed coach of the Super Eagles by the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF).

Oliseh was voted Africa’s third best footballer in 1998 by CAF.
