Departing Bayelsa United striker and current second highest goal scorer in the Nigeria Premier Football League, Robert Mizo, is hopeful his move to Libyan giants, Al Hilal Benghazi, will open up more opportunities for his budding career, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.

Bayelsa United confirmed on Sunday that Mizo had joined the Libyans on a three-and-half-year contract for an undisclosed fee.

His last game for the club before his exit was the 1-0 loss to 3SC in Ibadan on match-day 17 of the league, with the Restoration Boys currently battle relegation. They are bottom of the table with 14 points after 17 games.

Mizo’s form in the NPFL is, however, a stark contrast to the club’s fortunes, as his 10 goals places him as the second highest scorer behind Sikiru Alimi of Remo Stars, who has 11 goals. He also scored nine goals in the abridged league last term, taking his tally in 2023 to 19.

Due to his imperious form this season, he has been touted to break the 23-goal NPFL record for the highest number of goals scored in a single season, held by former Enyimba striker, Mfon Udoh since 2014.

However, he believes there will be other challenges for him to conquer in Libya.

“I’m aware of the prospects ahead in the NPFL but my move to Al Hilal will not just open doors for me but will give other players the opportunity to come up as well. There will be new challenges for me and I must be ready to conquer them,” Mizo told PUNCH Sports Extra.
The striker has scored half of Bayelsa United’s 20 goals this season and his departure leaves them now looking elsewhere for goals.

The 23-year-old joined Bayelsa United in 2017/18 season in the Nigeria National League, helping the club to lift the Aiteo Cup in 2021 as well as powering their return to the elite division with crucial goals.

His new club Al Hilal are currently fifth in Group A of their league, while they are also third in Group A of the CAF Confederation Cup with two matches to go.
