Despite their poor run in the 2022/23 Nigeria Professional Football League season, the head coach of Enugu Rangers Abdul Maikaba is confident the Flying Antelopes will finish the season on a high note.
The Flying Antelopes were held to a 1-1 draw against Sunshine Stars on matchday 13 of the NPFL fixture played in Akure.
Ibrahim Yusuf’s fourth goal of the season had put the Owena Whales up in the 14th minute, but the lead only lasted 14 minutes as Chidiebere Nwobodo levelled matters for the Flying Antelopes.
The Flying Antelopes have struggled with form this season, lost five and drawn five matches and won just three matches, which placed the team eighth with 14 points in Group A of the NPFL season.
Amid these poor stats, the 58-year-old gaffer is not losing sleep and has assured fans of a good season finish.
Speaking in his post-match conference, the former Akwa United coach is confident that things will turn around for the club, adding that they wanted to win in Akure, but getting a point away from home is good for the team.
“I think it was a fair result to both sides as we keep working to ensure we end the season well,” Maikaba said.
“I actually came here to win but the early goal conceded demoralized the boys.”
“But the determination was there in the boys which gave us the equalizer and had more opportunity to go ahead early in the second half but were missed.”
