With uncertainty surrounding the future of Kylian Mbappe, Nigeria international, Terem Moffi, has been linked with a shock move to Spanish giants, Real Madrid, following his impressive start to the 2023/24 season, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.
According to Defense Central, Los Blancos are closely monitoring the 24-year-old as part of their Plan B should their pursuit of the France international hit the rocks in the 2024 summer transfer window.
Madrid are long-term admirers of Mbappe, but concerns have arisen over his contract extension with Paris Saint-Germain.
The 14-time UEFA Champions League winners are building a squad full of some of the best young talents from across the world.
Madrid have almost all the areas covered with young players that could dominate European football for years to come with Jude Bellingham, Fede Valverde, Aurelien Tchouameni and Eduardo Camavinga in midfield, they equally have Vinicius Junior and Rodrygo on their flanks.
However, following the exit of Karim Benzema, the Spanish giants are yet to find the perfect replacement for him.
The one name linked with Madrid almost every day is Mbappe but the transfer saga has been dragging on for too long and the club wants to move on to other centre-forward targets.
The capital club prefers securing Mbappe on a Bosman deal next summer, but already have Moffi as a viable option should the Frenchman commit his future to PSG.
Moffi has established himself as a standout performer in Ligue 1, making significant contributions during his spells with Lorient and now at OGC Nice.
In 108 appearances in France, the Nigerian has scored 43 goals, registering another 12 assists.
He has started this new season in fine form, scoring three goals and registering two assists in five matches and he got the better of Mbappe when Nice and PSG clashed on Friday in Paris.
Moffi scored two goals and had one assist as Nice beat PSG away from home, much to the frustration of the Frenchman.
The Calabar-born’s goal celebration at Parc des Princes provoked Mbappe, but Moffi could care less as he came out winner between the two.
Moffi’s impressive display has not gone unnoticed in Spain as Madrid are now reportedly paying more attention to the Nigerian ahead of the next transfer window.
