Ahead of the forthcoming Lagos State Football Association election scheduled to hold in May 2023, incumbent Chairman Barrister Seyi Akinwunmi who is to end his third term in office has vowed not to seek a fourth term re-election.

The former Nigeria Football Federation’s first Vice President is serving his third term in office and has denied rumours that he is planning to remain in office for another term.

“The electoral committee will meet and fix a date for the election. I have done three terms in office and I have decided not to seek a fourth term in office,” Akinwunmi told The PUNCH.

“After my third term in office, I am not running again, this is my last term in office.”

He further revealed that he was not interested in whoever succeeded him.

“When the electoral committee is in place and they fix the date for the election, those interested in vying for positions can express their intentions. I am not interested in who is contesting or not,” he added.

“My tenure expires in May and there will be an election.”

The football administrator who was elected as first Vice President of the Nigeria Football Federation in 2014, and served two terms in office until 2022 also debunked the news that he has been removed from office, noting that he remains the substantial chairman of LSFA.

“If I am not the chairman of LSFA, you will know now, I have not been impeached. Nobody has told me that I have been impeached, I remain the chairman of LSFA until after the election.

“There must be elections and after the election, the world will know the next LSFA Chairman.”
