Annabelle Fasuba, the daughter of former African 100m record holder, Olusoji Fasuba, is fast treading the trail blazed by her father, setting two new UK records in the U-15 Girls 100m and 200m in one week.

Last Sunday, the 13-year-old set two Devon County AA Track and Field Championships records in the 100m and 200m, being 0.02 seconds off her personal best, running a time of 12.11secs to win the event, and also swept the whole field in the 200m with a new personal best of 25.02secs, which is also the new championship record and the fastest ran on the day across all age categories for the event.

The championship, held at Exeter Arena, saw Zola Joanna Baptiste and Sophia Ingham clock 13.05secs to finish second and third in 100m respectively, while Isla Perry and Madeleine Davis-Hull ran 26.34secs and 27.07secs to come second and third respectively in the 200m.

Annabelle can be aptly termed a chip of the old block, being that her father was the African record holder in the 100m with 9.85secs until South African Akani Simbine broke it in July 2021 with 9.84secs, while her mother, Ngozi Nwokocha, was a 400m runner.

Her father joined the Royal Navy in April 2011, applying through the Royal Navy Careers Office in Oxford, and continued with athletics as a hobby and competing for the Royal Navy.
