Leeds United are set to battle Nottingham Forest for the signature of Nantes winger Moses Simon, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.

Director of Football Victor Orta has already brought in several new signings at Leeds, but he isn’t set to take his foot off the throttle yet.

A number of the new recruits impressed as Jesse Marsch’s side came from behind to beat Wolves at Elland Road.

But the American will need some help winning games and the focus has now shifted to Nigerian winger Simon, who Leeds are keen to bring in if the finances are right, as reported by RMC Sport.

The 53-cap Nigeria international is not just on the list at Thorp Arch though as another Premier League side is looking to make a late swoop for the 27-year-old.

According to Foot Mercato, newly-promoted Nottingham Forest are not done throwing the money around and would like to sign Simon before the window closes on September 1.

Should he stay at Nantes, Simon would be playing European football this season, thanks to their Coupe de France victory at the end of last season, but the lure of the Premier League might be enough to bring him over.

Leeds cannot allow his English destination to be the City Ground, having watched him for some time, so they have to act fast because Forest have already shown their willingness to get deals done quickly this transfer window.

Forest coach Steve Cooper has quite the squad to choose from already and the rest of the division’s bottom half clubs from last season could do without it getting any stronger.

Nottingham already signed two other Nigerians this window strikers Taiwo Awoniyi for £17m and Emmanuel Dennis just last weekend, for a fee around £20m.
