Remo Stars’ hope of reviving their Top 3 ambitions in the 2022/23 abridged Nigeria Professional Football League suffered another setback on match-day 15 as a last-minute goal ensured they settled for a 1-1 draw against Enyimba in Aba on Sunday, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.
Phillip Odubia met Sodiq Ismail’s perfectly weighted cross with a fine header to score his first Remo goal and also give coach Daniel Ogunmodede’s side the lead just before the break and they were almost close to completing the double over George Finidi’s side until a last gasp equaliser deprived them of a moral-boosting win away from home.
The result leaves Enyimba in second place in Group A with 24 points from 15 matches while Remo Stars are sixth with 21 points from as many games.
In Jos, Plateau United further dented Nasarawa United’s survival hopes by beating them 1-0 thanks to a first half strike by Nenrot Silas. The Jos side have temporarily leapfrogged Akwa United into second place in Group A with 24 points, leaving the Solid Miners 9th in the Group with 10 points from 15 matches.
Elsewhere Ibadan, Taofeek Malomo, Godwin Alao and Douglas Achiv were on the scorers’ sheet for 3SC in their 3-0 rout of Gombe United.
The battle in Group B continues to open up with wins for Doma United and Niger Tornadoes reshaping the top-three.
Doma United continued their impressive run with a 2-1 win over Bayelsa United to temporarily move up to second on the table with 25 points, thanks to goals from Charles Chibuike and Hillary Ekawu. Niger Tornadoes also moved to third place after thrashing Abia Warriors 3-0 in Kaduna.
In Akure, Sunshine Stars returned to winning ways for the first time in three home games, thanks to a 23rd minute header by David Onovo which was enough to seal a 1-0 over first-placed Lobi Stars.
