Nigerian midfielder Alex Iwobi has said that he always considered former Arsenal coach Arsene Wenger a genius during his time with the Gunners, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.

In an interview with SuperSports, Iwobi revealed how Wenger was a man of few words, the few times he did felt like wizardry and how he always valued his advice.

“When I was training in the academy, he did not really say much, he is quite reserved, and when he speaks, he is like a wizard, everything just stops, you don’t even hear birds.

“There was a day I was training and I had like two shots and they just went over the bar, and he said, be patient, just take your time, and just hearing that from him, giving me advice, it was a big moment for me,” he said.

The 26-year-old also talked about how he felt when he was going to sign for Arsenal, saying, “I was excited to sign for Arsenal, my family had worked so hard for this, and I could tell my friends ‘I am playing for Arsenal,’ I was buzzing, it was a big club, one of the biggest clubs in the world.”

On his first game at Goodison Park for his current employers, Everton, Iwobi said he was happy to mark the moment with a goal.

“It was a good game, against Wolves, and I scored a header, I don’t really score headers, so, I was happy. My first three Premier League goals for Everton came against Wolves. I do need to get goals against other teams but I am sure the next time I play against Wolves, I will be confident,” he said.
