Former Ipswich Town winger Finidi George is thrilled to have his goal named among the Top 10 in the Blues Premier League history as they countdown to their return to the league after 22 years, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.

Kieran McKenna’s side sealed their automatic promotion with a 2-0 win over relegated Huddersfield at Portman Road on Saturday and also became the first side since Southampton in 2012 to achieve back-to-back promotions.

A day after the Blues confirmed their return, the Premier League, via its official Instagram account, also teased their fans with a compilation of their best goals in the EPL, which included Finidi’s spectacular finish against Sunderland in the 2001/02 season.

Finidi, now the Super Eagles coach, raced from his own half and applied the final touch, a chip, after a slick one-touch passing move in their 5-0 win over Sunderland. It was the third goal in the compilation which started with Matt Holland’s rocket against West Ham United in the same season.

“Yes, I have seen the video as well,” Finidi told PUNCH Sports Extra.

“It feels great to be listed but I am happier for them coming back to the Premier League,” Finidi, who also doubles as Enyimba coach, added.

The 53-year-old Finidi made 46 appearances and scored eight times for Ipswich Town.

He was one of the marquee signings of the club in 2001, costing them £3.1m from Spanish side Real Mallorca. The ex-international remained at Portman Road until 2003.

In the club’s history, McKenna is the fifth Ipswich manager to win promotion to the top flight, following Alf Ramsey (later Sir Alf) in 1961, Bill McGarry in 1968, John Lyall in 1992 and George Burley in 2000, the latter doing so via the playoffs.
