Insight Talent Heights Academy triumphs in Ludo tourney

The inaugural Lagos State Secondary Schools Ludo Championship concluded successfully this past week at the Indoor Sports Hall of Teslim Balogun Stadium, Surulere, Lagos. Insight Talent Heights Academy emerged triumphant, claiming both the first and second positions in a thrilling display of Ludo expertise.

Themed ‘Empowering Tomorrow’s Leaders,’ the championship was organized by TRS Sports Academy in collaboration with the Lagos State Sports Commission. Competitors from various schools demonstrated their mastery of the dice-based game, with Okunyemi Irenitemi and Ogunade Timilehin of Insight Talent Heights Academy clinching the first and second spots respectively. Israel Osahor from Inter Guide Academy, Ikeja secured third place.

Oluyomi Oluwasanmi, Director of the School Sports Directorate at the Lagos State Sports Commission, expressed appreciation to the organizers for reintroducing Ludo in a structured manner, emphasizing its role in fostering healthy competition among children. She affirmed the Lagos State Government’s commitment to developing all sports within the state and commended participating schools for their discipline throughout the championship.

In a goodwill message to the students, Tunde Oloyede Sobowale, a member of the Board of Directors at TRS Sports Academy, encouraged fair play and camaraderie among competitors, urging both winners and participants to view the event as a platform for personal growth and development.

Babatunde Amosun, General Manager of TRS Sports Academy, highlighted their goal of promoting a unique sport that families can enjoy together at home. He revealed plans to make the championship an annual event and expressed aspirations for a national competition involving schools from across Nigeria.

“We chose Ludo because it’s a game that can be enjoyed by families and also promotes educational empowerment,” Amosun emphasized. He further disclosed that all prize money from the championship would be directed towards funding the winners’ school fees, underscoring their educational focus.

Kingsley Udolisa, Commercial Manager of Razzl Drinks and a co-sponsor of the championship, echoed the sentiment, emphasizing the developmental benefits for children participating in competitive Ludo.

The winners received substantial scholarships, with the champion awarded a N1 million scholarship, and the first and second runners-up receiving N750,000 and N500,000 scholarships respectively. Additionally, all participants received certificates and various gifts for their participation.

The event concluded on a high note with participants lauding the organizers and their schools for the opportunity to showcase their skills and sportsmanship in the tournament.
