Following a 1-0 win over Nasarawa United on Sunday, Plateau United head coach Fidelis Illechukwu has expressed confidence that the Jos-based outfit will finish strong and book a qualification spot for the 2023 Nigeria Premier Football League Super 6 playoff.
The former Heartland FC manager disclosed this after his side narrowly edged visiting Solid Miners to claim all three points in Jos.
Silas Nenrot’s goal in the 13th minute sealed the win for the home side.
The win moved Plateau United to fourth on the log in Group A with 24 points, one point shy of Enyimba, who are third on the table, and seven points adrift of table topper Bendel Insurance.
With three games to the conclusion of the abridged league, Illechukwu, while praising his side urged them to put up a decent display to enable them to secure a top-three finish and qualification for the Super 6.
“We have three more games to go. We will take on Kwara in our next game away from home, and we hope to get something positive from that encounter,” Ilechukwu said.
“It’s that game that will determine whether we can play in the Super Six competition.”
Ilechukwu’s Plateau United face tough three fixtures in the coming weeks as they travel to Ilorin to play Kwara United on April 29 before a home game to Remo Stars on May 7.
They will conclude the 2022/23 season with a trip to Maiduguri, Borno State where they will battle El-Kanemi Warriors in the last game on May 14.
