Reflecting on how Leicester City found themselves in a relegation fight will only be a distraction, striker Kelechi Iheanacho has said, with full focus needed on picking up the points needed to win their battle against the drop.
Iheanacho, who says the players “have done everything” to try to turn their form around, believes an inquest should take place at the end of the campaign to uncover the woes behind this season, but that City must ensure their survival first.
The Nigerian, who scored the first goal under Dean Smith with what proved to be a consolation against Manchester City, will hope to fire the club back to winning ways when they host Wolves on Saturday.
“There are twists and things happen in life,” Iheanacho told talkSPORT. “We’re not going to blame anybody for being in this position. We just need to look at ourselves, pick ourselves up and go with everything we’ve got to be safe.
“We are here now, so we can’t be looking back at what’s happened. We can do that when we are safe. Right now, we just need to focus on the remaining games and fight for our lives to be safe. We can only do it together and as a unit, as a team.
“We have done everything. There is nothing we haven’t done. In the dressing room, on the pitch, on, on the training ground, we’ve done it all. We have changed so many things, we’ve done everything to get a lift.
“We just need to win football games. We just need to get on the pitch and make sure everybody’s head is on it.”
None of City’s three strikers have been regulars on the scoresheet this season, but it is Iheanacho who has the most in all competitions, with his tap-in at Manchester City his seventh of the campaign. Jamie Vardy and Patson Daka have four each.
They’re all vying for a place in Smith’s starting line-up at the King Power Stadium, and there is a possibility that two of the trio could play together.
Iheanacho added, “We have three strikers and the managers know what they should do and who they need to put in for this kind of game. It doesn’t matter who plays, we are together.
“If Vards, me or Patson play, we just need to give our best for the team. The most important thing is for us to get the points we need.”
