Striker, Odion Ighalo, missed his spot kick during the penalty shootouts as Al Hilal clinched their 10th Kings Cup title at the expense of Al Wehda on Friday, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.

The title was Al Hilal’s 66th in their history and Ighalo’s third in his career.

Al-Hilal had lost two finals already this year in the FIFA Club World Cup and the Asian Champions League and they were within moments of losing a third on Friday in Jeddah after they trailed Al-Wehda for 98 minutes.

But a late strike from Ali Al-Bulaihi sent the game into extra-time before the Riyadh giants triumphed 7-6 in a penalty shootout

The Nigerian who started the encounter from the bench came in for Abdullah Otayf at the start of the second half missed his side’s third kick during the shootout.

Each team scored just one of their first three with Ighalo and Andre Carrillo missing for Al-Hilal.

The scoreline had reached 6-6 when Al-Mayouf saved from Hazzaa Ahmed Al-Ghamdi and then the goalkeeper stepped up to fire an unstoppable shot into the net to ensure that Al-Hilal avoid a third final defeat in 2023 to end a busy season with a silverware.

Ighalo will now aim to complete the season on another high note finishing the season as the league top scorer,

Ighalo currently trails Abderrazak Hamdallah by a goal.

Ighalo has scored 18 league goals and 20 in 28 games across all competitions this season.
