The son of legendary Italian defender Daniel Maldini has voiced out his admiration for Napoli’s Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen, noting that he derives inspiration from the former Lille star.
The Nigeria international has been rated as one of the most prolific strikers in Europe with his amazing goals record this campaign.
Osimhen, 24, has taken Italian football by storm this season to become one of the most sought-after players in Europe.
His physicality and explosiveness make him a threat to defenders and unstoppable in front of goal, registering 10 league goals in 2023.
The Super Eagles striker has scored 19 goals in 21 Serie A appearances to send the Partenopeans 18 points clear at the top of the table.
The 21-year-old Maldini, who plays as an attacking midfielder for Serie A side Spezia, on loan from AC Milan, praised Osimhen for his incredible season.
“Osimhen inspires me,” Maldini told Napoli Magazine. “He is having an incredible championship. It’s really overwhelming.”
Osimhen’s impressive form earned him the league’s best player of the month for January, while he was named the winner of the Serie A Goal of The Month Award for his stunning Pele-like goal against Roma in the same month.
The former Lille player’s fantastic form in front of goal is one of the reasons Luciano Spalleti’s side are league leaders, 18 points more than second-placed Inter Milan and are on course to win the Italian league title for the first time in over three decades.
