Atalanta manager Gian Gasperini is hoping that Nigeria international Ademola Lookman recovers fully for Wednesday’s (today) Serie A clash against Spezia, according to Tutto Atalanta.

The 65-year-old Italian disclosed this while speaking at the pre-match press conference ahead of the clash scheduled at the Gewiss Stadium.

The 25-year-old striker was not in Gasperini’s squad as Atlanta defeated Torino 2-1 in a Serie A fixture at the Stadio Olimpico Grande last Saturday.

The Nigerian forward has not played in three league matches since the thigh injury he suffered against Bologna and is expected to make a return tonight.

“Atalanta coach Gian Gasperini is trying to recover Ademola Lookman, who is putting the injury to his right hamstring behind him for Wednesday’s match against Spezia,” a statement from Tutto Atalanta reads.

Since joining from Leipzig during last summer’s transfer window, the Nigeria international has settled in perfectly in Italy and is currently Atalanta’s top goalscorer in Serie A this season with 13 goals and five assists in 28 games.

Gasperini will however hope Lookman gets some playing time and help the Nerazzurri pick an important home win.

The Nerazzurri currently occupy seventh position with 55 points in Serie A and are still in contention for a Top 4 finish to guarantee a place in the UEFA Champions League, just two points separating them from fourth-place Inter Milan, who have 57 points.

With four home fixtures left on their schedule and meetings with Juventus and Inter still to come, Atalanta’s fate is in their own hands.

They have managed seven wins from 15 matches at the Gewiss Stadium and will aim to get another home win to continue their fine form.
