Despite being involved in one of the goals in Bordeaux’s 3-0 win over Rodez in Ligue 2 penultimate Saturday, French analyst Laurent Brun has taken a punch at Nigeria international Josh Maja.
The 23-year-old then laid on the assist for 20-year-old French midfielder Logan Delaurier-Chaubet to slam home the winner on the hour-mark in their 1-0 league win over Niort at the weekend.
Les Girondins were relegated from Ligue 1 last season, after finishing bottom of the 2021/22 table with just 31 points.
The one-cap Super Eagles forward, however, remained at the club and has started all of their three games this season.
Maja is, however, yet to open his goals account this season, drawing heavy criticisms from the French analyst.
On their ARL podcast (via Girondins4ever), Brun took a swipe at Maja for his poor display over the weekend.
“Bordeaux collectively mastered the game, it was enough, we don’t rush… I find that Bordeaux play in a very diligent, very efficient way, and the mid-attack transitions were existing, and it is perhaps also thanks to Fransérgio, who had a decent match. It’s good, we must not ignite.
“I put a damper on Josh Maja even if he participated in the second goal,” Brun noted.
“I find that Bordeaux played with ten men. I’m sorry, I have nothing against Josh Maja, but I found him totally absent in this match.
“We will have to ask ourselves the right questions because a centre-forward has to weigh in something, and I find he did not weigh on this encounter.”
With two wins and a draw in three games, Bordeaux have seven points to go joint-top of Ligue 2 table with Guingamp.
Maja will however get the chance to score his first goal and silence his critics when Bordeaux make the trip to the Stade des Alpes to face Grenoble Foot 38 next Monday.
