‘Forest rued moment Awoniyi hit bar versus Foxes’

Gary Neville told Monday Night Football at half-time that Nottingham Forest rued Taiwo Awoniyi hitting the post last night.

The Reds striker struck the woodwork after being played in by Morgan Gibbs-White with the score goalless.

Forest conceded just moments later and then proceeded to capitulate in 10 second-half minutes.

It’s the third game running that the Reds have conceded three or more and the defending has been woeful.

Ultimately, things might have been better had the team found their shooting boots last night at the King Power Stadium.

Awoniyi gets into some good areas but sadly he’s not quite there when it comes to the ruthless nature required in the Premier League.

Neville felt that things could have been so much different last night had the Nigerian tucked his chance away.

He told Monday Night Football at half-time, “Absolutely, it’s a big moment in the game for Forest. Obviously, it won’t be remembered at half-time but if that goes in…”

It was a great move that set up the chance for Awoniyi but ultimately although he was unfortunate, he still fluffed his lines.

The youngster will learn and he does have two goals to his name during 2022/23.

Forest can’t keep missing chances, however, and the Reds must find a winning formula pretty quickly.

Awoniyi was unlucky to see his effort rebound off the post but the Premier League is a tough school and Forest have to learn quickly.

The striker signed for the Reds from Union Berlin in the summer for a fee of £17 million.

As a result, it’s likely that Forest will persist with the player as he continues to get up to speed with the Premier League.

Had Forest taken the lead at that point in the game, the atmosphere at the King Power Stadium might have turned toxic.

Brendan Rodgers remains under a bit of pressure but they did climb off the bottom of the league on Monday night.

Awoniyi will hope to bury the next chance he gets.
