FIFA to name headquarters pitch after Pele

World football governing body, FIFA , has announced its intention to name the body’s headquarters pitch in Zurich after Brazilian football icon, Pele, who was buried on Tuesday.

FIFA President, Gianni Infantino attended Pele’s funeral on Monday at the Vila Belmiro stadium in Brazil and the FIFA president suggested that each of the 211 member federations name at least one stadium or venue in their respective countries after the Brazilian legend.

Following the funeral, Infantino revealed that world football governing body’s decision to name the football pitch at the FIFA headquarters in Zurich after Pele.

“The most important is to pay tribute to King Pele, and whilst I humbly suggested that throughout our 211 member associations at least one football stadium or venue is named after him, we will set the example by giving the pitch in our headquarters the name ‘Estadio Pele – FIFA Zurich’,” Infantino noted.

Pele passed away on December 29 at the age of 82.

The three-time World Cup winner had been struggling with health issues for some time and was taken to hospital in early December.
