Nigeria Premier Football League sides, Remo Stars and Sporting Lagos won’t play in this year’s Federation Cup after they were both knocked out in the semi-finals of the Ogun and Lagos states FA Cups respectively on Thursday, The PUNCH reports.
For the second consecutive season, Remo were knocked out by their youth team, Beyond Limits Football Academy, while Sporting were beaten by Nigeria National League side Inter Lagos. The wins saw the NNL sides punch their tickets to the Federation Cup as well.
Remo and Beyond Limits had a player sent off each and thanks to a penalty shootout miss by Adams Olamilekan, the junior side triumphed 5-4 on penalties after regulation time ended 1-1.
Chukwudi Isaac gave the academy boys the lead as early as the sixth minute, while Haruna Hadi levelled matters for Daniel Ogunmodede’s side in the 20th minute.
Just before the hour mark, Beyond Limits were reduced to 10 men after Adebayo Dikko was sent off for a second bookable offence while Adedayo Olamilekan was also given the marching orders in the same manner just a minute before the end of regular time.
Beyond Limits will face Stormers Sports Club of Abeokuta, who thrashed Ijebu United 4-0 in the second semi-finals, in the final.
In Lagos, in their first ever Lagos derby meeting, Inter Lagos got the better of Sporting Lagos, beating them 2-0 at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Onikan.
Tony Obia was instrumental for the NNL side, scoring one and providing the other for Abubakar Taheer, as they got their cushion before the break and set up a final date against champions Ikorodu City FC, who beat First Bank 3-0 in the other last four clash.
